That behavior goes far beyond driving.
My wife loves to spend long hr on the phone, when for me most of the calls are 3 minutes.
That said, when phone rings at home, unless I am close to 1, I let the machine take care about it. Most of the calls are solicitors anyway.
My wife on other hand will drop whatever she has in her hands, or leave hot dinner on the table to run to the phone before machine answers.
