I have purchased a couple of cars with a salvage title .
They are heavily discounted 25 % to 40% when resold .
They are difficult to sell .
One was a pickup that was near new and we used as a " shop truck "
The other was a sportscar that I bought to abuse as an autocross car .
Both looked good from 10 feet .
In both cases Oregon state registered them as salvage .
I insured them both at the regular rates , no discount .
There are some individuals that sell rebuilt cars and somehow avoid the " salvage " title .
Carfax does not pick up every damaged car .
My guess is they miss a third .
