scissor steps

My scissor steps are not parallel when extended. If I extend them so the middle step is level, the upper slants down away from the camper while the lower one slants back the other way. I always thought they were sloppily built, but I noticed a different brand camper with different tread steps that had this very same feature. Is this purposeful? Are your scissor steps parallel? Thanks.

    No, ours are not parallel. I think it is a shortcoming of the design. We try different amounts of extension until we achieve what seems to be the least-worst setting.

    I looked into getting our camper retrofitted with the current step design, which I like a lot better. But it would cost $1600. So I guess we will live with the scissors.

    These steps are not as bad as I thought they would be before we got our camper. We manage to use them without feeling like we are risking life and limb.
