Sealing edges of trailer. What putty or caulking do you use?

I'd GUESS butal tape.... it turns black with all the dirt it collects?

also OVER the edge, most add some kind of Dicore lap sealant... so that could also come in black and have nothing to do with butal tape.

2016 Pacific Coachworks Mighty Lite 20RLS is the trailer I have. It does look like butyl tape is what is in the void between the wall and the trim.

Butyl putty tape is commonly used between openings and sealing items. Common between windows and walls etc. The stuff is cheap and you can buy it in 50 foot rolls. A plastic scraper will get the old stuff off and cleanmup the joints. Follow it with a bead of Dicor for a good seal.

It could be Butyl or putty tape. Putty tape is made from clay. It is perfectly normal for it to ooze out over time. Use a plastic scraper to carefully remove the excess. To do a full repair requires removing the entire piece of trim.

Butyl comes in at least 3 different colors for RV's, black, white and tan.

Butyl tape is good for about 10 years then should be replaced. Both under the trim and around the windows. In the interim, screw tightening every year will help prevent leaks and prolong the life of your RV. The trim strips can be removed after pulling the "RV Vinyl Insert" out. New butyl tape and new "RV Vinyl Insert" are inexpensive. Lots of screws will come out too easily.. Use toothpicks and carpenter's glue to restore the screw holes so the screws will bite...new screws are a good idea, too!

Thanks all for the butyl tape lesson. I ordered a roll for now and see how far it takes me. I ordered the dicor brand.

How old is your trailer? You shouldn't have to replace any for years. If you do then you'll just have the same issue the following year.

It’s a 2016 but there’s spots along the front trim where you can see gaps in the butyl tape like it fell out or something. You can see the wall all the way back behind the trim. The gaps are maybe 1/4 inch to a 1/2 inch long just every so often. I don’t want to take any chances of water getting in there.

I tried Dicor on my last trailer to touch up the seams, and would never use it again.
It is way too sticky and impossible to get a neat bead.

With that said "self leveling" Dicor is great for flatwork like the roof
