Carbon cleanup is an ancillary benefit. Primary reason is simply the volume delivery limitation with the injectors in the DI system (since timing has to be precise when fuel is delivered into the cylinder). As-is, tuners are already adding port injection to the current 3.5L simply to get more fuel delivered when the turn the boost way up.
