Another thing that bugs me is that the RV manufacturers don't control their distributors the same as the auto manufacturers. Definitely something wrong with the whole system. One smart guy with decent funding could turn the whole industry upside down and force it to do two things; build a quality product at a reasonable price point and, make distributors responsible to the manufacturer similar to a franchise. If the franchisee gets out of line he loses his franchise....period. I only have a TT, pretty nice but no great monetary investment that would bankrupt me. I figure after 3 camping seasons if it fell over a cliff I would have pretty much amortized the 30K investment. On the other hand if I had a MH with over a 100K much less 2 or 300K I'd be pretty po'd to have the manufacturer and or dealer hang me out over a service / quality defect by the old "navy salute" trick. Probably a good idea I don't get to be King for a Day....the RV manufacturers pucker factor would increase by an order of magnitude I find hard to quantify.
You are correct Legolas. I never doubted problems would arise with my purchase. My shock only came that its 2 years in. Obviously wood rot does not occur overnight and had been brewing probably since purchase or before. Theres no way to know this as the whole slide is covered and can only been seen when taken apart or when it falls apart.
Again I post this so people thinking of or trying to decide on owning a camper can see the other side of the glitz and glam that these moneypits offer. Do not fall into the false sense that you are protected in any way by these so called warranties should a problem arise. It is the dealerships job to find fault in what you have or have not done and unless you take your camper every 60 days for a full check up and pay hundreds of dollars the fault will be yours. Even if you do dealerships are not responsible once the warranty is up.
