I think battery theft is about replacing a bad battery on a vehicle - not wanting or able to buy one - rather than resale or reuse.
Could be wrong about that.
As you say it doesn't make economic sense, but the jails are full of people who do stupid crimes for almost no financial reward.
I have to agree,,can't do bigger crimes without a crime vehicle,,and if your crime vehicle wont start,, then I am sure a battery outside on the tongue of a trailer with a light to no security devise is available, then you become a prime target.
Now if said dirtbag has to actually work at it and possibly make noise, and risk getting caught, then they will move on and find another easy victim!!
Now just finding the thief with the battery is a petty property crime for Law enforcement,, only if that individual has priors or an outstanding warrant then they will serve jail time,, otherwise, this looser will be released on his own recognizance and be right back at it again!!
My point being,,, All we can really do as law abiding citizens is to make our possessions a less easy target. How is that accomplished?
Well, you see a battery or two that you like and want, then you need to add another cost equal to or most likely greater than the original items....Then we hope and pray that it does not get stolen!!
What a viscous cycle!! But in the long run,,,,,,,I guess it is a boost for the economy in one way or the other!!
Oh,, and lets not talk about defending our property!!! That will surely get this thread closed!!
