Much depends on your wants/desires, and what you're used to. A 1500 lb. "teardrop" is a large step up from tent camping, but a big step down from hotels.
Assuming you're looking for room and comfort, don't think so much about dry weight, but loaded weight, which is the real limit. And don't try to push the 5000 lb rating if you want less stress while driving. In any case, there are other limits you'll likely hit before that, like how much weight can be on the hitch.
There are lots of TTs with gross weights of 3500-3850 lbs., which would be a good target. Then, subtract what you'll want to carry. If you'll go to improved campgrounds all the time, that should be less than 300-400 lbs. If you plan on boondocking, then you also have to consider the water you'll need to carry. That might be another 300-400 lbs. So, if you want something as roomy/large as possible, look for something with an empty weight of 2700-3500 lbs, depending on your plans.
Don't trust what the brochure or dealer says for dry weight, that's typically way below reality, especially if there are installed options.
