Your tow vehicle's max cargo is the limiting factor. It is usually posted on the door jamb. It is the total weight the vehicle can carry including the tongue weight, gear and family.

Our 5000 lb dry weight TT crosses the scales at 6200 lbs when loaded for the road. 750 lbs of that is carried by the tongue.

Our max cargo is 1400 lbs. So we have 650 lbs left for family, dog and gear.
