If your 4 runner already has a hitch installed, check out the rating for that hitch. It is usually stamped on the hitch somewhere. While your vehicle is rated at 5,000# your hitch may only be rated for 3,000#. The other advice here about weight ratings are important. I'd suggest a better tow vehicle or a serious reconsideration of what you are towing. If a new tow vehicle isn't in the budget, consider a used one. On our first trailer years ago, we discovered that our 4 year old '99 Mountaineer V8 wasn't a very good tow vehicle despite the small size of our trailer (19') and mods I made including Super Springs and LT tires. I bought a nice used '99 F250 and found it to be worlds better towing that trailer as well as the next one which was much longer and heavier. Sometimes our desires and our pocketbooks don't match up, please be safe.
