Here's my strategy when I think the price needs to come down by a good amount:
Using my past experience owning RVs (I am on TT #3 now) I nitpick the **** out of it. Anything they didn't mention in the ad that I find in person that is less than ideal I make that into a list. I never make an offer when I first look at it. I go home and think about it. Then I write the email. "In addition to the issues stated in the ad, I found x,y,z. Therefore I am willing to offer you xxxx price for this trailer."
usually they don't counter offer because I make it reasonable, not a crazy lowball. Last time they just took it and everyone was happy.
And I know they are asking high expecting to be talked down.
I do use NADAGuides as a basis to check things out.
