The posters on this thread seem quite savvy when it comes to purchasing/selling smartly. However, we do not represent the general person on craigslist. After all, look at the number of people upside down.
From my experience selling on craigslist, I've gotten much closer to my "unreasonable" asking price than I ever expected. For instance, my last TT fetched 82% of what I paid new. I used it for 3 years, heavily. I was proud of the care we took of it. It was kept covered, which made it stand out from most of the market. I felt that was worth something, and it was something tangible that buyers could see when shopping.
That trailer sold in about 2 weeks. In hind sight, I should have started even higher, it just felt ridiculous to me at the time.
In typing this, I realize that this could be a good strategy from here forward. If I could lose 18% every 3 years and continually buy new and be in warranty, not buying tires, etc. Doesn't that sound cheaper than keeping a trailer for it to be worth next to nothing after 10-12 years?
