I just saw a video ad from Northwood for their Artic Fox 811. It is designed for a "3/4 ton or larger" pickup. The base unit weighs 2600# dry. With a more typical assortment of accessories, I would guess the average unit weighs 3000# dry. Figure about 3400# wet. Add a driver, passenger, cooking gear, food, clothing, tools, misc and the weight will be at least another 1000#. Now we are at least 4400# and I would bet 4600# would be more typical. That is way, way beyond the rating for a 3/4 ton truck. In fact for a 1 ton with diesel and a crew cab the total weight would be over the GVWR and will be about 12800#.
