Farming is a hobby. Really? I have lots of hobbies: surf fishing, archery, photography, painting with pastels, roaming art galleries and museums, RV travel. I cannot imagine farming being a hobby.
Off topic again (and not to stay that way) but yes, farming is a hobby. being retired, it gets me out of the house, keeps me poor equipment wise and keeps me active and fit. never been a couch potato and don't want to be.
When I go in the equipment barn and take stock of all the rolling equipment, I think to myself... It's worth maybe 2 or 3 Newell's and a Prevost thrown in.
Believe me, in bad years, I've considered selling out but what would I do? Sit around like a couch potato and die. Not my style. I enjoy all aspects of farming except the pay check.... and the payment books.
One of my favorite things to do is in the evening, just about dark, sit in the middle of a field with the tractor shut off, kick my feet back (recline the seat (feet on the steering wheel), open the doors and be with nature and God and watch the Northern Lights and listen to the wildlife scurrying about. Hard to get much closer to the Creator than that.
If you have never experienced it, don't question it........
