We've got a '91 Shadow cruiser - small hardside one, allegedly 1400# dry weight, no bath (portapotty instead), east-west bed, manual jacks. I think they went bust a couple of times, hence the patchy history. I can't say if mine is any better or worse than any other brand because Its the only camper I've owned. Steve.
We rather like the minimalist list of options on the one we're looking at i.e. it has no oven, no microwave or toilet either. We're debating whether that is OK for our style of camping or not ... mostly RV Parks while traveling and provincial parks when closer to home and both usually have washroom facilities close by. We've never camped "off the beaten path" with our Class C. However, with a truck camper, that may be an option.
Several of you have older (1990's) units which seem to speak of their build quality and longevity. Frankly, we are getting tired of the annual Spring maintenance and cash outlay to keep our C class in top working order (brakes seem to be a recurring issue due to its sitting for 6 months during the winter). This year, I resealed the roof and windows ... and replaced the front windshield.
I actually enjoy working on and keeping our things in tip top shape, it's just that we're at a point when we don't need or want all the options and amenities that keep us "enslaved" if you know what I mean.
