Thanks for the replies. Both of these illustrate the problem. and I am dealing with dirt/gravel at this time.
I am now thinking of extending my carport out another 10 or 20 feet. It
has a peaked roof line.
have to get a carpenter to discuss it with, as I would not want the
'cross timbers", (can't remember the name). Maybe a combination of metal
struts, and wood trim.
