Shocks for the Silverado

I know there is a difference in manufacturers. Are the differences the noticeable? Would Bilstein be Ruth Chris Steakhouse and Monroe be Golden Corral Buffet? Best analogy I could think of...
Bilstein, Rancho, KYB, Monroe?
I don't know if I want to spend the Bilstein cost.
We probably drive 5000 miles a year at this time. Sure those miles will go up a few when we make the move to Idaho. Really no off road. Not really sure what other info is needed... Right now the 2002 has 117000 miles.
Thanks

I have had the Bil's for about three years now and still riding great.
  • I put Bilsteins on last fall. Better ride for sure. Am very happy with them.
  • KYB are good, normally a bit firmer ride than factory shocks.
I put Gabriel Ultra shocks on my truck 2 years ago and have been happy with them. Good ride and they were pretty affordable.
  • I went with the Rancho adjustable shocks on the 09 Chev and they are good except the adjustment knobs will seize if you don't exercise them. On the 2013 chev I went with Bilstein 5100 at about 55,000 miles and they improved the ride quite a bit, I haul a 3000lb slide in commercial service body with the truck gross weight at 10,600lbs.
  • I just finished installing a new set of Rancho's (from the Ford dealer) this morning and I was surprised how much the ride quality has improved. The factory shocks had over 100k miles on them.

With 117k mile on your truck I'm pretty sure any brand will make improvement in the ride.
  • I probably should add that I do prefer a firm ride. And Patti was looking at Bilstein on Amazon and didn't say a word about the cost...
  • I went with Blistein's on my 2011. Big difference from OEM's.
