I don't believe 5mpg. My 08 Duramax is tuned and has the emissions fix and it's around 1-2 mpg better depending on conditions, hand calculated. 5 is a huge stretch.
You've driven one deleted so you know the benefits. Is it worth the downsides is only up to you. I'm glad I fixed mine, but I wouldn't do it on one that's under warranty.
And the legitimate tuners won't sell tunes that "roll coal". Older diesels you could stack programmers and such, but you also risk your tranny as blowing smoke is a result of too much fuel for the amount of turbo boost.
