"20% doesn't leave much cushion. 700 pounds of remaining payload is okay I guess, as long as you don't carry a lot of passengers. Certainly a regular cab DRW truck will have much more than that, but most of us aren't driving a regular cab.

Jeebus. 20% not much cushion? Pretty sure on the right or wrong day I have close to 4800lbs in the back of the ole Dodge 2500! Only 170k miles on it, so it should break in half any minute now! (It is on it's second set of brake pads already...)
19.5 steer tires obviously are not good in the traction department save for dry or wet pavement, but traction tires are good and can be great if siped. Siping helps steering tires on packed snow and ice appreciably as well.
