Very simple it is like a Global NHTSA, UN is the umbrella body like the US Government is the Umbrella body of the NHTSA. You may or may not agree with actions of the US Government, but accept the fact it needs the NHTSA to administer Automotive standards
I am not disagreeing with the government needing NHTSA but I see no need for the U.N. to be involved in a world wide setting of safety standards on autos. I do not believe the U.N.was founded to include safety standards for autos and do not believe they have any business doing so now. Just another attempt to add another layer of unnecessary spending with most of the money provided by U.S. taxpayers.
