side rail tool boxes?

Question

I'm looking to eliminate the large tool box that sits at the front of my bed, replacing it with a large water tank instead.

the toolbox doesn't have anything "large" in it... it's got extension cords, road flares, leveling blocks, a few tools, tarp, road, chain, etc... I'm thinking about getting some storage boxes that sit on top of the bed rails instead, filling in that awkward wheel well area.

price and features seem all over the board, from under $200 to over $1000, per side!

any feedback on what's good and what isn't?

Lowes stores in my area have started stocking the low profile over the wheel well side boxes.
I don't know how heavy duty they are. They are aluminum diamond plate.
You can get them sized for use with a cross box or sized for the full length of the bed.

Large water tank
Additional tool boxes over wheel well areas

We have a Highway Products low profile tool box that sits right next to tailgate...low profile due to towing 5th wheel

Yes, plenty of payload now.Those highway boxes look very nice, however I'm afraid anything that requires a custom quote is out of my price range.NJ thanks for the feedback on Lowe's, I've noticed home depot carrying similar products... Will have to check them out next time I drive to the city.

I just bought a Better Built Truck Bed Side mount tool box to use as a battery box for the front of my camper. I bought one of the SEC models which are an upgrade to the regular models sold in big box stores. It's very nice and has automotive style handles and locks on both ends. It was $350. I used to have some sweet side mount diamond plate custom made boxes.
They ran the length of the bed and were about 8" wide.
Had one shallow compartment over the wheel well and two deep on either side.
I sold them because I wanted the extra space back.

I'll see if I can dig up some pics.

Best pic I could find, but you get the idea.
Im sure Ive seen a place that sells something similar.
