silicone removal Yes/No?

Dicor was used around the door, but silicone was used around ALL the windows. I know because I have one of the tubes of caulk used. It was "DAP Window Door and Siding 100% waterproof 100% silicone" meeting ASTM C920. I read many of the posts on here about NOT using silicone, but my question NOW ! is what to do about it. Should I dig all that silicone off, and redo all with Dicor? That will be bad news if yes. Bummer indeed.

Also, if yes, what is a suitable cleaner to remove silicone residue so the Dicor would stick to it.

Please tell me all is well in wonderland.

I'm playing devils advocate here, but what do people around the outside of their houses? Surly not proflex..

Of course not, Proflex and products like it are designed, amongst other things, to flex as the rig is towed down the road. Last time I heard houses don't get towed anywhere ... different issues requiring a different solution. :)
  • OK. Any experience with removing the silicone residue? What works best?
  • If you are going to keep the rig then take off the silicone and use the dicor.
The silicone on the rig I bought had all discolored over time.
It was a pain but the rig looks better and cleans easier
  • the problem with silicone is that NOTHING will stick to it, not even more silicone!...and the residue is very hard to clean off if a re-caulk is needed.

Don't know what ReneeG is talking about as you'd never want to use any sort of silicone anywhere on the exterior of the trailer ... once applied it's really difficult to remove, especially the residue, and therefore get anything else to stick to it. :M Why anyone would do this is a mystery when products such as non sag ProFlex or Sikaflex designed specifically for the purpose are so readily available in a variety of colours.
  • My understanding is that silicone is ONLY to be used on windows and doors as noted on the Dicor tube. So when we bought Dicor for all the side and roof seams, we bought a separate tube of silicone for the windows and doors.
