Silverados, Tundras...

We've been looking at Fords and Rams, mostly the 150s and 1500s, but the occasional 250 and 2500. Haven't looked at other marques, like Silverado and Tundra, mostly because I don't see them in people's signature blocks as often as the other two.

How do they compare?

  • We are very happy with our Tundra towing our 29' trailer and would buy another one. Have towed across the US and mountains with no problem. Have the Blue Ox Sway Pro weight distribution bars. Great truck!

The Tundra had a big advantage in '07 when they came out with the 5.7 V8, 6 sp Trans, and 4.30 rear end. IMO, the Tundra was a no-brainer in 2007. Since then they all have about the same power/specs and are evenly matched, so like others said, buy the one you like. They all perform about the same.
  • Mostly depends on what "flavor" you like... ;)

They are all good and decent trucks and can tow trailers just fine.. Some have fan loyalty behind them, others have specific needs that only a particular make offers and on and on.

You won't get any kind of consensus on this kind of question here... Just as you haven't gotten much of a consensus on your other questions either.. :)

You'll get lots of opinions based on the individuals wants and needs in a truck and that's fine. But, it'll ultimately come down to what you want and need in a truck and then go from there. :)

    Good luck!

  • I tow with a 2012 GMC Sierra (same as Silverado). Been a great tow vehicle, no issues at all, just regular maintenance.

Towing wise it does great. Has all the numbers I needed (GVCWR, towing, payload, rear gears, etc). We do 2 major trips per year (about 2,000 to 4,000 each trip) with many smaller weekend trips (this gives an idea of how much towing we do)

When looking at the "big 3" (Dodge, Ford, GM) it can boil down to personal preference. For us, it was cost (we bought ours when huge incentives were offered that Dodge Ram and Ford didn't quite have). Point is, I believe the trucks are all good. Others may say otherwise, but D, F, G are all decent.

I personally see GM and Ford at majority of the parks we go to. Dodge Ram comes in 3rd (in general) as far as spottings go. I've rarely (twice that I can think of) seen a Tundra.

Tundra: I have no experience with this brand as a truck, so can't speak to it.
