Single axle hybrid

Hopefully, the single axle HTT owners will chime in. One sale argument for dual axle is exactly taht, in a blow out, the trailer is harder to control. However, in Europe, all travel trailers are single axle, they don't seem to sway any worse, because that does not depend on the number of axles. It also depends what you have as a towing vehicle, the heavier and longer, the better. I would want to make sure to have good quality trailer tires.

I have a sixteen foot Kodiak. On the way to Florida two weeks ago, I had two flats, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. My camper is single axle. I was driving 55mph when each one happened. The trailer wasn't hard to handle either time. The trick is to never use cruise control when towing a camper.

tandem axle trailers are much more stable than a single axle.
and the blowout thing is true.

i'm assuming your daughter has a weaker tow vehicle, that locks her into the 3500lbs. GVWR group.
if so, PLEASE look closely at the CCC amounts for that group of trailers. almost all have VERY low cargo capacities.

She has a explorer 6cyl tow package looking at passport not sure if single axle or double model

Careful. I have a Ford Explorer with a tow package. I found out that there are two different tow packages, regular and heavy duty.

How did you find out which tow package you have

Research, including looking at the size of the hitch receiver.

If it's the hitch receiver that came with the Explorer, then it's likely she has the HD package. Mine is not and I have a problem with the engine overheating in the mountains. Our mountains are small, too.

I have a single-axle Kodiak with a WD hitch and I have very little trouble with sway or bounce. It's better if I load the camper and the Explorer equally.

have a single axle HiLo that we've been towing for 9 years. no problem with sway or stability and had one blow out on rte 5 in CA doing 60 and handled with no problem. Have about 30000 miles on the rig.
