To counter: Before you buy a single look at all the one ton trucks with small car carriers or those professionally delivering RV's. Not a single wheel among them.
Banged fenders are a result of poor driving. Plain and simple. If you can't drive a bigger truck, get a single.
Heck, have OP look at my dually....perfect condition...I've not driven dually's as long as some have in here, but it's been over 10 years now, in all kinds of traffic, all kinds of weather...parking in tight spots...going thru drive thru at bank, at Mickey D's, etc. and NEVER a crack, a dent or anything else for that matter...don't get me wrong, I can see it happening, but after 10+years of daily driving with one and towing with it....Mine has never shown the conditions Dog Folks stated above.
Heck, I'll go out on a limb and state if OP is only towing a 5er with a GVW of 15,500#, he can probably do it with a new Ram 3500 SRW....though, I would prefer to tow that with a dually....The RAWR is 7500#, I think, and the GVWR is about same as my 2010 Ram dually.
I've towed this 5er through the mountains with both SRW and DRW trucks and the Dually handles towing in the mountains with more stability than the SRW truck, but my 5er weighs 16,300# (loaded to ).
