Skamper structural frame?

I bought a very used and neglected Skamper slide-in pop-up camper. It is a 10 footer for an 8 foot bed.
I thought all I was going to do was to gut it and rebuild the interior, but found the roof in need of repairs when the front opened like a sardine can.
So, I have two questions.
One is how is the roof made, and what keeps it strong? I can see maybe two ½ inch layers of styrofoam under aluminum sheets. Rain and water damage rotted the front panel and needs to be replaced.

Two, what is the structure of the body like? Where is its strength? On the sides, on the bottom. Is there a steel sub frame? I see a lot of wood so far, and just the metal rails screed under to the plywood floor. I need to know so I can know how to fix things.

  • The toothpicks are more structurally sound than you would think. I was surprised. I have read where manufacturers warranty stick built for 5 years, steel for 2 and aluminum for 3. Go figure. Wood will never fatigue and crack, and I imagine water damage is not covered under warranty.

Tooth picks...love it man. Thanks...you gave me a good chuckle. Its exactly how I explain it to people. Id bet if I cut all of the sealant around the windows and doors and try to lift it its going to fall apart.

  • Did you try to contact manufacturer for support?
Unfortunately lot of RV manufactures went out of bussines and support does not exist as I experienced with my Fleetwood, but hopefully your luck will be better.
