A/C does not make cold but rather moves heat. Check the amp rating.

If successfully starting a roof mount A/C with a genset is the issue then the better solution would be a 13,500 BTU A/C equipped with a Micro-Air Easy Start Soft Starter Kit powered with the new Honda EU2200i which is significantly more powerful than it's 2K predecessor or indeed any 2K inverter genset currently available. If the OP felt a 9200 BTU A/C would be sufficient the EU2200i would just laugh at the task. :p

Is the Dometic even available in the US. So far all I see is pricing in British pounds and Australian dollars and it's not a pretty sight.

I agree, because I have that exact combo setup, and it works. I have tested at 107 degrees and also at 7500 ft and it starts both in ECO.

According to the coleman site, it's only around 1200w, which a 2000w (1600w continuous) generator should be able to manage. The only issue is startup but there are capacitor systems that solve that issue.

Are you making the incorrect assumption that you convert the BTU/hr rating directly to watts to determine power required?

Air/con units move heat, they do not destroy heat. The result is an efficient air/con unit removes far more BTU of heat than the wattage it consumes.

The 9000btu RV unit makes a lot more sense.

That's what I thought as well. Plus a 9000 is already designed for the opening and usually there is already power there.

A hard start cap such as the Supco SPP6 will only marginally improve A/C compressor start up and isn't anywhere near as effective as a soft start kit such as the Micro-Air Easy Start. If the OP is going to do this there's no point in using half a solution when a complete solution is readily available and is proven to work.

Only 8A @ 24V in eco mode, that is ~17A@12V with a 12V to 24V converter. DC to DC converters are very efficient and not very expensive, found a 40A output model for $120 on Amazon.
