Small observation windows pj

I am going to eliminate the 17 x 29 cab thru window. 1. It is not used to pass anything ever! 2. It is a big heat sync. 3. I only need to see into cab from TC to check for safety reasons. 4. it sometimes leaks from thre wind pressure and heavy rain...enuf reasons!

I need a small viewing port. Non-opening, round, square, rectangle dark grey glass? Ideas pls! THX

  • S-F AHH! good question...it is for easy ID for myself as to the postings that are related to my rebuild.

Billyg I have looked into that and it is the finish issue of both sides, thru deck usually it is a raw finish on inside the compartment and usuall the deck is thin compared to wall of TC...yes there are portlights that may do the job, but I'd really light a deadlight (non-opening), all is not lost yet!

Stopped by a hardware and there is a jumbo door security peep item that could work for the cab look see, will keep that in mind.
  • Hi I'm not sure how big a port window you want. On my boat I have a 4in deck plate that allows me inspect the bilge through the floor. It is clear with a water tight cover that can be removed for access. The flange maybe 6in dia. West marine sells deck plates clear, black and white in several sizes. I also think there are some that don't open. Bill

I considered that but going on the view of what my front door peep is like it would not really do the job...but worth checking the hardware store agian, has been 18 years since I installed the front door one. THX for the reminder.

  • Actually the cab thru is the same type of slider at the galley, but about 3" smaller in both directions...do you realize how much that does to the galley outside wall by having a higher backsplash according the the boss?!?!
So it will replace the original galley window...which means a smaller shde and less wasted space...neater and cleaner again per boss...so it is done! HEHE!!
