Small trailer with oven

We're in the early stages of getting a 1/2 ton towable trailer. I have a F150 without the heavy duty tow package. I added a factory transmission cooler, I figure I'm at about 5000, and 500 tongue weight. In the past we've owned two different pick up campers, one with hot water, black and grey holding tanks, wet bathroom and 3 way fridge, the other with portapotti, a sink drain to a bucket outside, and no hot water tank, neither had a microwave. The one feature we really want is an oven. So far the only light weight trailer we've with an oven is the Jayco 16V....

  • Agree on the Rockwood Mini Lites or, if you have no aversion to a hybrid, the ROO 19 is very nice. Also absolutely agree on an oven. Some folks never use theirs and prefer not to have one, but storage space instead. IMHO, you could be in trouble at resale time....if you don't use the oven as an oven, just use it as storage. But we use our oven every trip. Believe it's a standard on the Mini Lites.
  • I just took a quick look on Poulsbo RV's website and in a couple minutes found at least two trailers with ovens:

    Forest River Cascade

    McKenzie Rainier

We have a Cascade Rainier that we purchased at Poulsbo RV and we love our trailer. Like you, I wanted an oven, but after about 30 nights in it over about 10 trips we still haven't used the oven and I'm not sure if/when we will.
  • We've found our oven fairly useless; we thought we'd like it before we actually had one. The little oven cooks unevenly, burns on the outside and raw on top. We tried the ceramic tile trick in the bottom, and it worked a little better. With a microwave, propane stove, and portable Coleman propane stove, we found less and less use for the oven. Anyhow, we live in South Texas, and we don't need to heat up the trailer anymore than our climate already does!
  • All Lance trailers have an oven option, including their smallest trailer, the 1575 with a GVWR of 3500 lbs.

  • My coach has a combination microwave/convection oven which works very well. The only drawback is that you have to be plugged into shore power or running on generator to use it.
  • We use our built-in oven for storage and our toaster oven and microwave for cooking.
  • It seems to me that if you're buying new, you might be able to specify an oven. Probably just a matter of losing whatever cupboard space is usually under the cooktop.
  • Any dealers in your area that sell Rockwood Mini-Lites or their Flagstaff equivalents? Some of those are pretty small, but can come with an oven.
  • You can always go for a Coleman folding oven. Not as good as a built in oven, but better than none if you want one.
