Snowriver 810

Hello all, new to the forum and my first post. I have scanned over the FAQ's and am picking up info and will continue to do so. Hopefully I wont have to overload everyone with to many questions.

I am going to look at a Snowriver 810 TC with slide. Can anyone give me any info on this camper? What is the dry weight? The add for the camper says it is 2335 lbs with water and propane. This sounds a little lite to me. How will my truck handle it? (Specs on truck below) What kind of quality is it, etc. I cant seem to find too much info on this camper online.

My truck is a 1996 F-250 crew cab, short bed, powerstroke diesel. No real suspension mods other than KYB shocks and larger 285/75R 16 tires. I am planning on airbags for the rear. My intended camping is in both established campgrounds and some boondocking. I also plan on pulling a boat behind as well. The boat is a 20' ski boat that I think weighs about 3800 lbs including trailer.
Thanks for any help.
  • Maybe it was 3235. They weren't super light, I don't think. If you search the archives here, you probably can find more details.

I think almost any camper is too heavy for your '96 250. Tires would be my biggest concern though.
  • Bob, Thanks for sharing your experience/opinion. Thats why I asked. It doesnt crash my dream at all. I would rather have the info ahead of time than waste my time and money, and possibly my family's safety, than rely on dumb luck.
Keep the info coming if you all dont mind.
  • The Snowriver 810 had something different about the waste tanks, do the black and gray go into the same tank?

    Maybe someone can remember....
  • Ok. This is just my opinion.
I would think it would a little heavy for a 250. You are going to be over your rear axle capacity and payload rating and might be stressing some components, especially when towing the 3800# boat .
I hate to see you pass up that Snow River if its clean and has no delamination. Is a newer 350 out of the question ? Could you buy the SR and store it till you're ready for a more beefy truck ?

This is why i feel the way i do:
As an example , I had an Arctic Fox 860 on a GMC SB and that being over 4000# was too heavy for a SRW 250. The weight plus the extra height of the basement model slideout camper was too much and did not feel safe, crosswinds were killing me . The rear axle was sitting at 6800# .
My truck was new and the AF was leaking , so i got rid of the camper and kept the truck. I made the mistake not buying a 350.
Since then i moved down to a non slide Lance 845 with 6200# on the rear axle plus a lower non basement profile and it rides fine with my mods on my 2500HD.
Don't forget you want to tow a boat of 3800# .
You might have to get into a hitch extension to clear the camper overhang plus the extra tongue weight .
IMO, i think its too much for your truck . I tow trailers behind my tc all the time and 3800 is a good load with 4000# in the trucks bed.
Hopefully, others will comment and i hope my post doesnt crash your dream. Please understand, i want you to be safe .
    Bob
  • Just my .02 cents .
Did you weigh the truck alone ?
Look at your GVWR and subtract the real weight of the truck with passengers, tools, dog etc . See how much you have left for a hardside camper.
    Isn't the SR 810 a slideout tc ??
I think a SR 810 with no slide will be about 3000-3400# , ready to go.
  • If it's a Snowriver it will be a quality truck camper... none better.

Your 3/4 ton should handleit well... I would tell you to wait until you load it before you make any modifications to the truck... if they aren't needed it's money wasted... I see it all the time.
