So your saying that just because the black is exposed now that doesn't mean the roof is on its way out? I could wait to seal the roof and the black should keep me dry for awhile longer?

As others have stated you would have a major leak potential with those seams if you had heavy rain all the time like some of us. Web Seal Eternabond is much easier to use because it is woven glass and not PVC backed but will need to be coated at some point for UV protection. We have gone up to two years before coating and saw no issue but it will not last 35 years like their PVC faced tape I expect.
