When I changed the original filter at the engine the housing cap was so tight I was certain something was going to break. I used a much more reasonable torque when tightening it so hopefully it will not be so nasty the next time.
Make sure the socket is a 6 point 28MM and not a 12 point. Slow steady pressure on the wrench finally gets the cap turning.
