Sofa questions

We have a sofa that folds out to a bed. It is on a 2009 189 Surveyor with a couch slide. Two problems. There does not seem to be a lot of support on the folded out side when in bed format. Any suggestions on how to make it more solid? The second question is that when you fold it out it creates a grove in the middle of the sofa and makes it uncomfortable. We currently place a yoga mat to make it a little more even. Any body have any fixes for this problem?

Jack knife sofas are too short, and uncomfortable at best.
    Junk it when you can.
Either get a Magic Sofa or something like a Futon Couch.
I have a Futon couch that I add a Twin Futon on when we have a guest.
Daytime the Futon is rolled up and the Futon is pushed in to make a couch.
    It's actually pretty comfortable.
  • Replaced my jack-knife sofa with a home leather sofa. Left the RV bed mattress at the rv dealership as well. LazyBoy makes a RV sofa/sleeper as well that the back is removable.

I'm to old to put up with uncomfortable sofas and mattresses, a restful nights sleep priceless.
  • the jack knife sofa should have been outlawed years ago. horrible sleeping sofa. we had one in our first TT . i slept on it in living area and wife slept in bedroom due to my snoring and being cramped in a small rv bed. i almost rolled off the thing several times.

after about 3 months i ripped the jack knife sofa out and sold it on craigslist for 200.00 to a fellow customizing a large cargo trailer into a toy hauler.

we bought a thomas payne tri fold rv sofa. it was actually not a bad sleeping sofa bed. the foam material for me was comfortable.

they aren't cheap a little over 1200.00 but for me a good nights sleep is priceless.

our current TT came with one already in it and i continue to sleep on it. i do put a 3 inch foam mattress pad on top for extra comfort.

im sure there are others out there people will chime in on that are good as well.
  • The front living room in our 5er has 2 opposing couches that fold out and almost touch each other in the middle, making one gigantic bed across the entire front of the 5er. Problem though, those fold cracks are very uncomfortable. Solution?

We purchased 2 air mattresses (with electric pump) to lay on the top of each bed. Worked pretty good. My wife and I slept on them to test them out completely. We did not feel the cracks at all. The air mattress was an 8 inch deep one. If you used the 12 inch deep one, you'd do even better.

The only problem was, I don't sleep well on air mattresses. But the problem with the cracks was definitely not the issue any more.

We eventually went with stuffed mattress covers that resemble a fitted sheet. That also cushioned the crack and finally had comfort.

We don't sleep on them, but we do pull them out and lounge around on them watching television. My son and grandson sleep on them when they come with us. Quite comfortable now.
  • I have the same type sofa. Here's two suggestions: 1. when opened to the bed format place a pool noodle between the two sections. 2. Lift the seat to the point where it will balance with the underside exposed. Then take some strong cord and tie it from each zig zag spring to the next. Do this in several parallel rows across the length of the sofa seat. This will make the seat section firmer and more comfortable whether used as bed or sofa.
