Thanks for the replies. I am looking at picking up a TC in addition to the MH. DW is having some medical issues that leave me camping alone and a TC would be so much easier and when she gets back up and going I think if the TC has a shower we will take many more short weekend trips.
I am not in a hurry so I think I am way over thinking this purchase. Somewhat narrowed it down to:
Palomino SS 1251 - Price, low profile
Lance 650 - short floor length, hard side
Lance 825 - roomier, more storage, hard side
I have a SS1500 that I purchased 2 years ago. I have had no issue with it at all and I went from a Lance HS to the pop up. One thing I noticed right away was, I don't even know it's on the truck on the road. I always knew the Lance was in the bed. Not so with the Palomino. Fit and finish is good to excellent (much better than in previous years before they went to the RT electric roof). In fact, it is as good or better than my Lance was. Overall, it's quite a bargain for the price (unusual in the RV world).
In a pop up, storage will always be an issue but is in a HS as well. We pack frugally and use the backseat of the truck (have a 4 door) as well.
The 1500 gives you a wet bath with holding tanks and 2 propane bottles. I would have preferred a cassette toilet but none was available. Mine works for my wife and I just fine. I'd have no qualms about travelling cross country with it, in fact next year that is what we are doing.
Bought mine from Outpost RV in Goshen, Indiana. Nice folds, seamless purchase.
The factory is pretty close to me (Colon, Michigan) so if I need something or want something, it's a short afternoon drive for me.
