Soloing in a TT

I took a look at Northwood TT's pursunt to Bronofan's suggestion. I mostly liked what I saw, but the salesman, who seemed to be a straight shooter, said it is harder to solo in a TT than a 5th wheel. The hookup is tougher solo. Agree, disagree?

    Same here.

Instead of a camera an alternative would be the Hitch Helper Mirror.
  • You don't need a 5th wheel to go solo. While I am going to get a backup camera, I currently use one of these. Fellow campers/CG hosts can always be depended on for help backing into spaces if needed.

I don't really understand why it would be "harder" to solo in a TT. 5th wheel and TT are different, each has pluses and minuses. I've never owned a 5th... but I don't see that they would be "easier" or harder to solo in. Most 5th wheels I've seen are substantially larger than my TT - I find it hard to believe that my TT is harder to camp with.
  • I had a tool box mounted in my bed. Couldn't see bumper hitch or 5th wheel hitch. Portable eyeball camera worked well.
  • 98% of my TT travels are solo.
It is no big deal to do.

Hooking up? I aim for the ball but stop short and get out and look to see where I need to correct. Most of the time I can put it within a couple inches of the right spot the first time. No big deal getting in and out a few times to back it to the right spot.

Tiring? No, not at all. Looking in the mirror and seeing the TT following puts a smile on my face!

Without a back up camera you can't see the ball on a TT so it can be fun. With a 5th you can see the pin and hitch. I have had my TT for 10 years now and have solo'ed many times, no issues. At that level look at the Outdoor RV's Mfg. Frames made by Northwood. JMHO,, about 8K pounds and under a TT is fine but over 8K pounds a 5th is better.

Thanks for the quick reponse. A propros nothing, I know the new dean at La Verne law school. So, does a back- up camera mostly solve the problem? Do you find it tiring to pull a TT?
