Sorry folks but telling people to "check Craigs List" is worthless.
Honestly, the trailer carries a TITLE, for the crooks to sell it to someone on Craig's List they need to be able to (at least) hand over a fake Title.
As soon as the new "owners" go to register the trailer it will pop up as stolen.
Now the thieves might indeed sell it, but they will be selling it to someone that knows it's "hot" item and will not be registering it.
A significant percentage of rigs that are stolen, are stolen for one reason. They will quickly get parked on someone "back 40", out of sight, and be used to:
* Cook Drugs
* House Crooks
There is a slim chance the rig would get chopped for parts, but I'm guessing that the crooks want it for some criminal activity and it is already parked "out back" someplace.
Locally there was a rig found, abandoned at an accident, it was being moved at night and something went wrong and... they drove off without the trailer. It had been reported stolen eight years ago and hadn't been titled since. It had also been moved over 200 miles from where it was stolen.
