I have a padlock on the door when travelling. Mainly to stop someone attempting to open the door 'for a laugh' while stopped in traffic or similar. Or to stop casual attempts at thefts. We only park at the sort of places where someone noisily hammering at a lock would be noticed. It has a rough and ready look to it - the DIY look implies I don't have much money, hence nothing worth stealing.
At home we leave the camper unlocked.
When in the camper we have a bolt we slide across. Someone would make a lot of noise attempting to force the door with the bolt in place.
