Spare Tire

Last week I brought our TT home to pack for a weekend trip. I noticed excessive wear on one of the tires. So I decided to change it with the spare tire that has been on the back bumper since we purchased this trailer used two years ago.To my surprise the rim didn't fit my trailer. The spare was a 5 lug pattern and my TT is a 6 lug pattern. It is a new tire and rim so I would guess the mistake was made by the original dealer or at the factory.
So check under that tire cover and make sure the spare will fit before your on the side of the road and find out it won't fit. Thank goodness I found out in my driveway and was able to fix the problem easily without semis whizzing by on the side of the road.
Anyone have a tire preference they can recommend I will be replacing tires and a rim in the near future?
  • I have chinese tires that my local dealer has had good luck with, can't remember brand, they are nearing the age I will replace, around 7 years but they have over 15,000 miles on them, they track well have given no problems and I will replace with similar tires without concern. If cheaper options are available I certainly will consider them but will take informed opinions of my dealer as good advice. I also find my local dealer a local business owner, not a merchant.
  • Just ordered a new rim, once it arrives i will be having Goodyear Endurance tires installed. Mechanic said the tire was defective.
  • We've got about 3700 miles on the Good Year Endurance tires we put on earlier this year and so far so good. Haven't had any problem with them.
  • If you had only one tire excessively worn, it would be a good idea to find the cause before using the new tires.
  • I went with the new Goodyear endurance, I have 1800 miles on mine and they have been great.

Do a search and you'll find a number of us have decided to give the new, upgraded, Made in USA Goodyear Endurance tires a try. I've got 1500 km mine so far and am really impressed at how much better the trailer handles due to this tire's noticeably stiffer sidewall construction. :B
  • Good advice....
my bet is that the dealer pirated the original spare while your trailer was on the lot so that he could give it to another customer....He then had one of the yard guys just throw whatever they had laying around on to your trailer so he could sell it to you....

I once walked through a new unit on a lot that had the kitchen faucet missing.....pirated.
