Squeaky Fastguns

Does anybody else have a problem with squeaky fastguns? We are traveling in Alaska and when I pull into someplace which is rough squeaky of them is very annoying. I think with all of the dusty roads that we have been on that this maybe the cause of it. I know it is the fastguns because I can rock the camper slightly and get them to squeak and reach out and grab them and the squeak stops. Or disconnect the fastguns and rock the camper and there is no squeak noise.

Wondering what to do to stop this short of tearing them apart and oiling or slip plate spraying them. I well do this options when I get home but don't really feel like doing it on the road.

Any suggestions????

Thanks
  • It appeared to have rusted thru 50% before it snapped. Possibly just a bad hook. The full TL warranty took care of it .

Good idea to lubricate. Mine snapped because it was squeaking and wearing at the hook. ( I use this excuse when i lose a big fish too )

P.S. TL stepped right up to the plate and replaced it .

It looks like only 1/4 of it was left before it snapped. Was there a hole crossways through it or does it just look that way in the picture?

Wow, that must have taken a lot of force to break that.

It was not tight just slightly snug. It snapped when entering a gas station. The ramp was steep and the camper went rock n roll and the FG went snap. I guess i should have taken it easier on that driveway apron. :S I carry one old tie-down just in case something like this happened. I actually got to use an extra part that i tote around from place to place.
  • Temporarily just about what ever you have on hand-cooking oil, pam, diluted dish soap etc, diesel with a lil oil, it will gum after awhile. Hard points & pivots- soap, candle, oil from dip stick...probably dont want to use, depending on area your at,-animal fats which are effective-ie bear bait.
  • This last trip I had one squeakin, it was a tad loose. I gave it two turns and that fixed it.
  • Butch I turned mine upside down and poured a little marvel mystery oil down into it, took care of the squeak. You could also use some 3 in 1 oil something lite and does not need a lot of the oil to rid the squeak
