Squeaky Slide

So we have a 2012 Coachmen Apex 21.5 footer. We bought it new... The first year we have already had to have a slide motor replaced (under warranty - cost us the $100 deductible) on one side. We noticed before it started failing that there was a squeaking/squelching noise and then one side stopped working while the other side kept sliding in/out. Now, a year later I can still hear a squeak/squelch noise again starting up, but the slide is still working normally.

My question is does anyone else ever hear these squeaking noises from your slides when you put them in or out? We just have the one slide, but after talking to the wife tonight I told her I would post the question here just to get feedback - which any feedback we appreciate. Thanks!
  • Have you ever lubed the rails? Use a can of dry lubricant and, while its extended, spray along the length of the rails (teeth). Close and open a few times. That may solve your problem.
  • I did this in February... and again for good measure yesterday. Still have the same squeak... it isn't REAL bad, but I have noticed that it usually does more squeaking when the slide is first going out or almost all the way in. The further it is out, almost no squeak at all, IF at all. When I hear it, the squeak is almost always when the slide is closest to the "home" position.
  • Are you sure that the squeaking is not coming from the seals and wipers as they rub against the slide when it moves in and out?
  • That is a possibility, but it sounds more like a squeaky-wheel-type-noise than something rubbing against the slide. I was just curious if anyone else ever has noticed any strange noises coming from their slides while they are worked in/out. Surely I am not the only one lol.
  • To answer your question, mine does get squeaky occasionally, but the lube usually takes care of it. Could be the seals, but doesn't sound like it. You could try getting at the bottom, probably have to drop the coroplast, or whatever else to get to it. Maybe the rollers could use some lube too.
  • OK, thank you. That was what I was thinking - that it sounds almost like a squeaky roller.
  • Best dry lubricant is a product out of canada called jig a loo. Orange can, availble at home depots in Canada. Works wonders.
