Kinda makes me wonder why they offer a dually with the manual transmission... Higher up front cost, higher maintenance cost, but less payload? Am I understanding this correctly?
Manual is 'free' with the Cummins... The 68RFE is a $500 option and the AISIN is $2650 option.
Dually is a $1200 option with any of the transmissions.
As mentioned above the payloads are greatly increased with DRW's, just not necessarily the Towing limits..
"Not necessarily the towing limits"...ONLY in your ONE comparison..only one....Even the heavier CC/LB/4X4 comfiguration with the 68RFE, the GCWR is significantly higher...also depends on the rear end...if you're comparing the 3:42, then you've opted to compare a manual tranny with the 3:42....Look at all the others...even the GVWR consuming Megacab 4X4...all have higher GCWR's, as well as the 9750 weight axle rating..again, the 3500 SRW only has the 7,000# rated rear axle....
Pretty good you found 1 (one), dually that didn't match the 3500SRW for overall GCWR, but even that truck still comes with the rear axle rating 2750# more than the 3500 SRW truck....
Again, don't take all this the wrong way, IF I hadn't towed the same 5er over the same mountainous terrain with both a SRW truck and a dually, I'd not know the difference, but I have and the dually is better stability wise, but..once again, that isn't what you're post is about. Its about one lone instance comparing a 3500 SRW truck with the only optioned out dually that , though it's payload is higher than a 3500 SRW truck, it states it can't tow as heavy a 5er as the 3500 SRW you're comparing it with.....though the rest of the 3500 dually's all can tow more than the 3500 SRW you've opted to use in your comparison project here and the Cummins forum:)
Even now, if I could purchase a 3500 SRW truck that would tow my 5er the way I want it too, I'd STILL opt for the dually due to where I personally tow my 5er.
