Stabilizers

If my trailer came with the 'stab' jacks, I would have replaced them with scissors.. Since mine came with nothing, I bought the scissor jacks and couldn't be more happy with them...

Mine are rated for #5000 EACH and my trailer only weighs #5000 fully loaded.. :)

I use a 19v drill to raise and lower them and give them enough tension to support the rig. I put the rears down first and then set the fronts.

Works for me.. Your mileage may vary.. ;)

What is it he hates about them? The movement inside the TT? If so, try keeping the scissor jacks and using cross-bracing/stabilizers like the Bal Lock-arms ones. There's a few other manufacturers of similar ones. You can install them left/right and fore/aft. Bal Lock arm stabilizers

Scissors jacks are pretty good at reducing vertical movement. Electric stabilizers are worse than scissor jacks as they tend to flex a lot. We have them and they're convenient but allow too much movement in all 3 directions.

The one wmoses posted a pic of are quite similar to electric stabilizers and IMHO, I think you'd be unhappy with them as far as movement goes.

Heh, that's exactly how I bent my rears. The tongue jack can lift way more weight than these things, so, without thinking, I lifted the front too far and put way too much weight on the rears.

Mine have bent/kinked too. You have to be very careful on sloped sites, because when extended only a little way they lose a lot of their strength. When fully extended they are stronger. I never use riser blocks with mine.



Am thinking about bolting some steel box or U-channel to the underside of the arms to strengthen them.

On the other hand these are stabilizers not jacks, the difference being the amount of load applied. Stabilizing just requires 'snugging up'. If they bent then too much load was applied for the designer's intended function. ;)

Also better the stabilizer arm bends than the lightweight trailer frame. It may have actually been designed this way ... to fail sacrificially, although this is RV engineering and I have my doubts.

Actually, while I dislike the 'look' of the scissors jacks they are probably stronger than an equivalently sized cantilever type stabilizer.

You may wish to consider this assembly from BAL.

Pretty much, thanks. The BAL look closest to what I think he's after. He feels like the scissor type are flimsy and just not nearly as solid as the other style. Now will have to see how they mount to be sure this will work.
