Stabilizing my Trailer

Hi all,

My TT tends to sway a lot. Not while driving, but while sitting stationary. If one of my kids rolls over in the bunk house, we feel it up in our bedroom. The constant wiggling drives us a little nuts.

I've done internet searches, but I can only find info about stabilizing the trailer while towing.

Does anyone have any suggestion on how I can stabilize the trailer while we are living in it? Are there any mods or aftermarket pieces I can add? Tips or tricks to make it more stable?

For the record, it's a big long trailer. 37'6" and 7,250 lbs. dry. So I know it's a big bugger to control. We have very generic stabilizer jacks t each corner,

Thanks!

  • I cannot use the X chocks due to the distance between my axels. I have found that simply using the cheap yellow chocks that you get from walmart (use 4) and getting a cheap rubber mallet to bang them in good and snug is enough to do it. I use wood for the stabilizers and jacks but not for chocks. It seems real molded chocks snug under the tires much better and if your tires are snug on both sides, it does not rock or sway.
  • I use the homemade "xchock/rotochok lookalikes". 2 4x4's cut into wedges with a threaded rod connecting them. They wedge inbetween the tires on the top and bottom. They make a world of difference with sway. I always carry wood planks to put under the tires to level, what I dont use gets put under the stabalizers.
  • Xchocks or rotochocks work great. There are some cheaper alternatives. 1 is to back up onto a regular chock a bit, then put a front chock under the wheel. That pressure will help. There are also some home made ideas for xchock/rotochok lookalikes.
  • Rotochock will stop a lot of that but they cost.
  • You might want to get some x chocks and also how extended are your stabilizing jacks? Only extend them no more than half and use wood blocks.
