I am towing a 28 ft TT that is going to be similar weight to your 26 ft bunkhouse. My half ton does a great job but adding bicycles, kayaks, firewood, etc adds up quickly. I know I am maxing out my current truck with a family of three.
I have been contemplating the same decision about replacing my 2005 GMC. I came to the same conclusion as bmanning already stated above. A 1 ton CC gasser with SRW. The added payload will pay dividends for your family of six. I am waiting to see what the 2015 GMC with the 6.2L looks like before making a purchase. At this point it is difficult to justify the expense of a diesel.
