My thoughts are the same as APT. Thinking back to the old days growing up... we had a family of five piled into an 8-passenger ('65 Chevy Belair and later a '72 Chevy Kingswood Estate) station wagon. On long trips, every square inch was used and greatly appreciated for many reasons. I can't imagine running anything but a large SUV for a family of 5 or 6. For new, a 2500 suburban is the only choice unless your tongue weight is low enough to go with a 1500. Both are great tow vehicles.
