A friend and I have the same truck. We both had installed the "stering stabilizer" (http://www.solidsteel.biz/)to deal with the "death wobble". It worked.
However after some time we both had worn out steering gear boxes and my buddys bearing on the stableizer had blow once.
We have now both installed chyrslers 09 tie rod upgrade kit and Chyslers HD "upgraded" gear box. The geomitry of the tie rods is changed and this "new" "improved" gear box is 13 lbs heavier with much stouter output bearings and shafts.
It handles much better!!
We were about to reinstall the "stableizer" when it occured to us to put a dial gauge on the pitman extender where the bearing rides and we found unacceptable movement of up to 40 thousand in the 120 degree swing.
That is bothersome as we conclude that if the stabilizer were installed then that stress would be forced back into the box/frame of the truck.
Chrysler braggs about how wonderful these new upgraded parts are in addressing the steering issues with this truck (they should really pay for it then) and our conclusion is that this is true...it does steer better.
Would appreciate any expertise here as I doubt we are the only ones that have had to deal with this issue.
Which gear box did you install? The 68170214AA, or the 08 and up HD replacement. I have 180k miles, and mine is getting some slack, and clunking a little. Tie rods are ok, and never had any wobble.
