I'm surprised the 4Runner felt that weight. My Mazda with G6 handled 2000 lbs (16' Scamp) like it wasn't there except for acceleration. The only changes from stock were 500 lb helper springs and a 5000 lb Class 3 receiver. This setup towed a 4000 lb boat (which was felt).
