Stopping to gas up

We went out west this winter with our TT. Our first time pulling our TT that far. We had an awful time pulling into gas stations and then trying to maneuver out of there. I would like some of you fellow RVers ideas and how you get in and out of gas stations. Thanks
  • I pick my stations out in advance using Google satellite to find stations that look easy to access. Most of the time this is stations where the pumps and parallel to the building.
  • Gas or diesel tow vehicle? If diesel, easy answer is truck stops. If gas, try to find larger stations which have the pump islands parallel to the building, not perpendicular. Google maps/satellite view is your friend here! Plan your stops before you start driving. Also, when possible fuel up when unhitched - i.e. pull into the campground for the night, unhitch and go on a gas run.
  • We have a 40' fifth wheel and before that was a 32' TT. And we found it hard with the travel trailer to find good places to stop so we went to transfer flow and bought a 40 gallon external automatic fuel tank.
With the TT we could go almost 700 miles without stopping and at that range we could pick our stations.
With the fifth wheel not as far but still could pick and choose our stations.
We just got a new truck and we are doing the same installing a 50 gallon tank.

This way we pretty much can make our destination set up and then take just the tow vehicle in and fill up.
