I am looking to replace the flap (this will be the third time) as the flimsy plastic pins have broken, again.
In all the years we've owned trailers with a stove vent flap I've never once had any issues with any of them, the key being to only unlock it for use and to always make sure it's secured with the tabs before traveling. :)
That’s obviously not a complete solution as I have always done as you described yet found our flap with broken hinge pins tucked securely behind the tabs. It was only a few years old too. The Romex wire pins I replaced them with have held up fine.
