I did a fender replacement on a Ford Capri in the mid 80's once. What a miserable SOB that was!!
The fender was spot welded on at about a billion places and then unbeknownst to me it was also glued on. It took me a half a day to get the fender off. Needless to say, I lost my a$$ on that job.
I did learn a big lesson that day. Glue works really well on cars!!!
As far as using aluminum on trucks. I don't like the idea. I repaired too many aircraft back in the day that stress cracked. The fact of life is, aluminum stress cracks; no way around that.
